The Celtic Star: today’s team news, Compper to start, Roberts is ready

MARVIN COMPPER will start for Celtic in today’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Morton at Celtic Park, reports The Celtic Star this morning.

Compper arrived at Celtic at the start of January in a £1million move from RB Leipzig but suffered an injury set back at the Dubai winter training camp shortly afterwards.

The German was set to be involved on Wednesday night against Dundee before that game fell victim to the bad weather.

Now though he will be given the chance to run out with the team and go into the Huddle before kick-off as Brendan Rodgers opts to start the experienced defender.

An impressive performance today could see Compper keeping his place for next weekend’s trip to Ibrox were Mikael Lustig will serve his one match suspension following his red card in the 2-0 win away to Aberdeen last Sunday.

The big Swede is available today to face Morton.

Dedryck Boyata is also targeting a return to action for next weekend so Brendan Rodgers will have options even without Lustig.

We can also expect to see Paddy Roberts back today, although whether he starts or is brought ones a substitute remains to bee seen. Paddy has suffered two hamstring injuries this season which has been hugely frustrating for the player that Celtic tried to sign for £10million last summer.

He impressed when coming back from injury as a substitute in the Betfred Cup Final against Motherwell in November and started the league match against the same opposition at Fir Park a few days later. However he pulled up within the first quarter of an hour and has an extended period on the sidelines ever since.

A development match last week against Patrick Thistle down at Cappielow gave Roberts an hour of game tome and he is likely to get a good run-out this afternoon against Morton.

The Celtic side today will come from: De Vries, Ralston, Lustig, Tierney, Compper, Hendry, Ajer, Gamboa, Brown, Simunovic, Ntcham, Roberts, McGregor, Musonda, Rogic, Forrest, Sinclair, Dembele, Edouard, Kouassi, Miller and Bain.

The match kicks off at 12.30pm. See you at Paradise!

Just want to pick up the article’s points about “injuries” to our players.
I’ve long been concerned about the number of Celtic players who seem to suffer from “muscle” and “hamstring” type injuries…and wonder if its connected to the training regime.
New arrivals at the Club seem to attract these kind of problems.
We seem to suffer more than other Clubs from this…or is it my imagination…?
