This must be one of Celtic’s best ever European performances at Parkhead. I wanted to be there, but family circumstances dictated otherwise. But I still enjoyed the game in the company of Messrs Sutton, Hartson, Linneker and Gerrard  on BT Sport .They were all mightily impressed by Celtic, albeit in a superior, patronising kind of a way. Well, it  was a win, but a far from convincing one in which Celtic never really got going and never came close to top gear and the form that we know they are capable of. Yes, the bottom line was three points and the preserved unbeaten record, but there were aspects of the game which filled one with apprehension for the two games against Astana. This was simply splendid. It is what the name “Celtic” means, and it was so reminiscent of the great days of 50 years ago. A wonderful night’s football with sparkling goals and crisp accurate passing sent the fans (and there were more than I feared there might be) home happy.
